Working at Terravek
742 people, eight countries, and a set of hiring practices we are prepared to be judged on.
Terravek is a nineteen-year-old company that still behaves in several ways like a research group. That is a genuine trade-off and it suits some people considerably better than others.
What that means in practice
Measurement over narrative. The company's central commitment is that a number without an uncertainty is not a number. If you find that pedantic, you will find working here exhausting. If you find it obviously correct, you will find it a relief.
Small teams with real ownership. The application security function is three people. The optics bench in München is eleven. You will be personally accountable for something that matters, sooner than you expect.
Publishing the unflattering parts. We publish model failure modes, pay gap figures that move the wrong way, post-incident reviews that name our own process failures, and validation results that do not support our marketing. Candidates who read our blog before interviewing usually have better questions.
How we hire
- Salary ranges are published on every advertisement, in the currency and gross terms of the country. Not "competitive". A range.
- The hiring manager is named in the advertisement. The reporting line is the single largest determinant of whether you enjoy a job.
- The downsides are stated. Our SRE posting says there is a 1-in-8 on-call rotation and that it is compensated. An advertisement with no downside describes a job that does not exist.
- Requirements lists are short — four or five items, being what we genuinely cannot train.
The full hiring process, stage by stage. Emre Şahin has also written a recruiter's guide to reading job advertisements critically, using ours as the example.
