Our history
Nineteen years, from two rooms above a bicycle shop in Delft to eight countries and a ground station inside the Arctic Circle.
Terravek was incorporated on 14 March 2007. Spun out of the Delft Institute of Applied Geomatics (DIAG) geodesy group. This page is the company's own record of what happened and when.

Terravek is founded in Delft

Saskia Bakhuis and Dr. Merijn Vroegh incorporate Vroegh & Bakhuis Geodata B.V. with four staff, spinning a laser-altimetry processing toolchain out of the Delft Institute of Applied Geomatics. The first office is two rooms above a bicycle shop on Binnenwatersloot.

First commercial contract

Noordwal Waterschap commissions a flood-defence deformation survey covering 84 km of dyke. The delivery pipeline built for it becomes the first version of TerraScan.

2009
Renamed Terravek Systems B.V.
1 July 2009 · Company
The company adopts the Terravek name, reaches 19 employees, and moves into the Zuidpoortlaan building that remains its headquarters today.

ORBIS 1.0 released

The first release of the ORBIS platform ships, handling airborne LiDAR and orthophoto processing in a single workflow. Eleven customers migrate from TerraScan in the first year.

Munich office opens; ISO 9001 certified

A DACH sales and support presence opens in München. Terravek achieves ISO 9001:2008 certification for its delivery processes. Headcount passes 60.

€6.5M Series A; GRIDSCAN launched

Nordkap Ventures leads a €6.5M Series A. GRIDSCAN launches for electricity transmission corridors, adding automated vegetation-encroachment detection.

Tallinn engineering centre opens

Terravek Baltics OÜ opens in Tallinn to build the platform engineering and QA function. Headcount reaches 140.

ORBIS 2 and the move to multi-sensor fusion

ORBIS 2 combines optical, SAR and LiDAR sources in one analysis-ready data model. TerraScan reaches end of life. The Vollenhove Polder calibration range is commissioned.

Toulouse office opens; ISO/IEC 27001 certified

A space-segment engineering team is established in Toulouse. Terravek certifies its information security management system to ISO/IEC 27001:2013. Headcount passes 210.

Acquisition of Photonwerk GmbH

Terravek acquires Munich hyperspectral optics house Photonwerk GmbH for €11M, bringing sensor design in house. In December the company converts to an N.V.

Tenth anniversary; AGRISENSE launched; Singapore opens

AGRISENSE brings crop-stress analytics to a new customer base. The Singapore office opens to serve APAC. Headcount reaches 320.

Terravek Labs founded; Denver office opens

A dedicated research unit is established in Delft under a new Chief Scientific Officer. Terravek Inc. opens in Denver to serve the Americas. A company-wide GDPR programme completes in May.

TIDEWATCH launched; €28M Series B; first Terravek Summit

TIDEWATCH extends the platform to coastal and inland water monitoring. A €28M Series B funds the ground segment programme. The first Terravek Summit is held in Delft with 340 attendees.

ORBIS Cloud and a remote-first shift

The managed ORBIS Cloud service launches, moving customers off on-premise deployments. Terravek adopts a hybrid working policy and certifies to ISO 14001:2015.

Acquisition of Cardinal Grid Ltd

Bristol rail-corridor analytics firm Cardinal Grid Ltd joins Terravek for £9.4M, becoming the UK office and the core of the rail practice. Headcount reaches 560.

Nairobi field office; ISO/IEC 27001:2022 transition

Terravek East Africa Ltd opens in Nairobi to run AGRISENSE field operations. FIELDKIT v2 hardware ships. The ISMS transitions to ISO/IEC 27001:2022.

The ATLAS developer API and DataHub open to the public with published SDKs. Terravek Academy begins certifying partners and customers. Headcount reaches 640.

Svalgrund Ground Station commissioned

Terravek's own X-band downlink node enters service in northern Sweden, cutting delivery latency for European customers to under 90 minutes. The Green 2030 pledge is published.

ORBIS 4 with on-board inference

ORBIS 4 introduces edge inference on partner satellite payloads and FIELDKIT nodes. Revenue reaches €148.6M and headcount 742. TIDEWATCH wins the Geospatial Impact Award.

Nineteenth year: platform consolidation

The 2026 roadmap consolidates ORBIS, GRIDSCAN, TIDEWATCH and AGRISENSE onto a single tasking and delivery fabric. Terravek Summit 2026 is announced for 22–23 September in Delft.
