Terravek GRIDSCAN

Corridor inspection without the helicopter bill.

GRIDSCAN product illustration

GRIDSCAN inspects linear infrastructure corridors — electricity transmission and distribution, rail, pipeline — detecting vegetation encroachment, structural defects and third-party interference from remotely sensed data.

A utility with 14,000 km of overhead line cannot walk it. GRIDSCAN turns corridor inspection into a scheduled data product: fly or task the corridor, and receive a ranked list of clearance breaches, leaning structures, missing hardware and encroaching vegetation with a confidence score and a location accurate to better than 15 cm.

The vegetation model predicts growth forward as well as measuring it now, so a maintenance team can be dispatched to the spans that will breach clearance in eleven weeks rather than the spans that breached last month.

For rail, GRIDSCAN adds cess vegetation, structure gauge intrusion and earthworks movement, developed with the Cardinal Grid team in Bristol and assured to CSM-RA.

Capabilities

Clearance analysis

Conductor-to-vegetation and conductor-to-ground distances against your own clearance standard.

Growth forecasting

Species-aware growth models project breach dates 6–36 months forward.

Structure condition

Detects lean, missing insulator caps, damaged cross-arms and bird nesting.

Third-party interference

Flags new excavation, stockpiling and structures within the easement.

Defect exchange

Open GRIDSCAN schemas export directly into common asset management systems.

Rail module

Cess vegetation, structure gauge and earthworks movement, CSM-RA assured.

Limitations

We state these on the product page rather than in a footnote during procurement. The sales cycle is eleven months and the truth surfaces anyway.

  • Growth forecasting requires at least two prior survey cycles before predictions are issued.
  • Conductor detection under dense evergreen canopy degrades; those spans are flagged as low-confidence rather than reported as clear.
  • The rail assurance package is currently scoped to UK and Irish infrastructure managers only.
