Ten years of vegetation management on 4,800 km of distribution network
Terravek's longest-running GRIDSCAN deployment, and the dataset that made growth forecasting possible.
The challenge
Stadtwerke Oberpfalz has 4,800 km of overhead distribution across mixed forest and farmland. Reactive vegetation callouts after storms were the single largest unplanned maintenance cost.
What we did
Annual GRIDSCAN Power surveys since 2014, with storm-triggered re-tasking. The decade of consistent survey data is what allowed Terravek to build species-aware growth forecasting, which now projects breach dates 6–36 months ahead.
Results
- Reactive vegetation callouts down 37% against the 2014 baseline
- Maintenance scheduled against forecast breach date rather than cycle
- Ten consecutive years of comparable survey data — the basis of the growth model
