Terravek published the Green 2030 pledge in September: net zero across scopes 1 and 2 by 2030, a 55% reduction in scope 3 intensity, and 100% renewable electricity across all offices and colocation facilities.
Renewable electricity is done for offices and contracted for both colocation cages from January. That was the easy one — it is a procurement decision.
Scope 1 and 2 are on track. The largest single item was the Delft building's gas heating, and the heat pump retrofit completes next year.
Scope 3 is where we are behind, and the largest component is business travel. We are a company with eight offices whose customers expect to see people, and video calls have not reduced travel as much as we assumed in 2020. We are 19% down against a 2019 baseline and we need 55%. That gap is real and I do not have a satisfying answer to it yet.
The second scope 3 item is the embodied carbon of FIELDKIT hardware, which we are addressing through design life rather than materials — a node that lasts six years instead of three halves its annualised footprint.
