There is a temptation in Earth observation to deliver something that looks convincing. A cloud-free mosaic with smooth colour balance and no visible seams looks like competence. Quite often it is the opposite: it looks that way because someone interpolated over the parts that were not observed.

ORBIS does not do this, and the mechanism that stops it is the ISO 19157 quality report attached to every delivery. It states measured positional uncertainty as CE90 and LE90 against control, radiometric uncertainty traceable to the Vollenhove Polder range, coverage completeness, and the full lineage of every input scene.

The uncomfortable consequence is that we sometimes deliver a product with a visible gap in it and a note explaining that the gap is real. Customers who have been sold seamless mosaics elsewhere find this jarring for about one delivery cycle. Then they start asking better questions.

The other consequence is that when a delivery falls below a customer's contracted quality threshold, ORBIS puts it in QUALITY_HOLD rather than shipping it quietly. That has cost us a small number of arguments about SLA credits and saved us from a much larger number of arguments about decisions taken on bad data.
