Terravek East Africa Ltd opened in Westlands, Nairobi last month with eight people. It is our first office established primarily around field operations rather than engineering or sales.
The reason is that AGRISENSE in this region is not the same product as AGRISENSE in the Lauragais. A French cooperative member has a variable-rate spreader and a farm management system. A smallholder in Nakuru County has half a hectare, a phone, and no reason to trust a recommendation from a company they have never heard of.
Bridging that requires people on the ground: field crews maintaining FIELDKIT nodes, agronomists validating the models against actual sampling, and training days run with the county extension service. None of that can be done from Delft.
We are also being deliberate about not arriving with answers. The seasonal validation is run independently by Rift Valley Agricultural College and we publish the results whether or not they flatter the model. In the first season they did not entirely.
